In 1971, Shelley and David “Big D” Sokol founded Camp Shalom, a summer camp that would go on to shape generations. Over the course of more than four decades, thousands of campers came through its gates—forming lifelong friendships, building confidence, and creating unforgettable memories that still endure today.
At the heart of it all was Shelley Sokol, who devoted over 40 summers to the camp as its beloved “camp mom.” With tireless care, and personal attention, she nurtured and guided countless children, creating a welcoming environment that felt like a second home to so many.
David, affectionately known as “Big D,” was the steady presence and visionary behind the property, dedicated to its growth and success. Until his passing in 2023 at the age of 95, he remained deeply proud to see the property continue to thrive and evolve—impacting lives year after year.
Today, Shelley and the Sokol family take great pride in what Mike has built: offering organizations the rare luxury of a fully private, all-inclusive campus where connection, growth, and lasting memories continue to flourish.
