How to Plan a Spiritual Retreat

 In Blog

The Orange Springs Retreat Center stands as a haven for those seeking relaxation, self-discovery, and spiritual rejuvenation. Located just north of Ocala, FL, this retreat center provides, all meals, lodging, and exclusive use of the entire 100-acre facility. While there are many services/amenities provided, there are still a lot of things to prepare for your group before arriving. Follow this short guide to plan a spiritual retreat so your next trip is a fulfilling experience.

Find Your Purpose

What will be the purpose of your spiritual retreat? Whether it’s getting closer to nature, bonding with your church group, or practicing yoga, having a clear goal will guide your activities while you’re here.

Determine The Duration

Decide on the length of your retreat. The Orange Springs offers a weekend getaway or a full week-long stay. Choose a timeframe that fits your group’s schedule and allows for an impactful experience.

Pack Mindfully

The location of the Orange Springs Retreat Center allows for all types of warm-weather activities, including swimming in our pool and lake, canoeing, paddle boating, kayaking, and more. We have open fields for outdoor sports and other team games as well as indoor/outdoor basketball courts and 4 tennis courts. Our ropes courses have a climbing tower with zip lines, a giant ladder, and many other lower ropes elements.

With that in mind, make sure you are packing the necessary items for your trip, including:

  • Comfortable clothing (check the weather before arriving)
  • Meditation cushions or blankets
  • Necessary religious texts
  • Toiletries
  • Items for any planned activities
  • Outdoor shoes

Disconnect from Technology

If possible, plan to disconnect from electronic devices during your retreat. Disconnecting from technology is often encouraged for several reasons since it minimizes distractions, enhances the overall experience, and allows participants to fully engage in the retreat’s activities and amenities.

Create a Schedule

Consider planning a daily schedule that includes dedicated time for meditation, self-reflection, spiritual practices, any planned workshops, etc. Allow for flexibility and free time in case your group wants to do something else. The Orange Springs Retreat Center has several meeting rooms available that can be used for worship and other activities. There is also a theater and a lecture room with an overhead projector, allowing for movies or presentations.

Meal Planning

Inquire about the meal options provided by the retreat center. If you have dietary restrictions, communicate them with us in advance. The Orange Springs Retreat Center offers great meals cooked by our chef, Clarence, who has been with us for more than 30 years. He is on staff for all of our weekend and week-long retreats and can help customize your retreat group’s menu based on your requests.

Prepare for Reflection

Bring a journal or notebook to document your thoughts, insights, and reflections during the retreat. This can be a valuable tool for self-discovery and growth.

Plan Transportation

Arrange your transportation plans to and from the retreat location. Here are some approximate travel times to Orange Springs Retreat Center:
